Gaetano Berardi has signed a one-year contract with Leeds United – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have given a wild response to the confirmed deal.
The Whites announced on their official website on Friday evening that the 32-year-old has agreed a one-year deal to extend his stay at Elland Road, something which has gone down extremely well with supporters.
Berardi, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, was out of contract at Elland Road at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and it looked like his six-year stint with the Yorkshire giants may have come to an end.
But the Swiss defender is now tied down with Leeds until the end of the 2020/21 season and he’s set to continue his recovery with the medical team in the next couple of months as he looks to work his way back to fitness.
The no-nonsense defender is a major favourite with the club’s fanbase due to his aggressive approach, something which has seen him pick up five red cards in his 15 appearances for Leeds.
His greatest strength has to be the versatility and that must be a big reason behind the decision to keep him, as he can provide cover for centre-back, right-back or left-back with relative ease.
