Leeds fans react as Eric Lichaj accuses Patrick Bamford of foul play during Hull win

Hull City skipper Eric Lichaj has criticised Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, accusing the striker of intentionally colliding with George Long – and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.

Leeds earned a late win thanks to an own goal from Hull defender Jordy de Wijs, before Gjanni Alioski scored an excellent effort after a blistering counter attack from Leeds – that started with a Hull corner.

With the clock reading 82 minutes, Kiko Casilla pulled off a stunning save from said corner. It saw Leeds break, with Kalvin Phillips feeding Mateusz Klich down the right flank. The midfielder ran the length of the pitch, before squaring to Bamford.

The striker hit the post, and then collided with Long. It sees Bamford take Long out, before Alioski shoots – perhaps making it a lot easier for Leeds to score. Hull captain Lichaj complained after the game.

“He know what he’s doing, he could get out of the way but he doesn’t,” Lichaj said – as quoted by the Hull Mail. “It’s not good, especially if you’re leaving knees to people’s heads, this is not part of the game and needs to be stamped out.”

Replays show that Bamford is looking at Alioski and the deflected ball after it has struck the post. He is running towards goal but with his eyesight looking at the ball, it is unlikely that Bamford intentionally took Long out.

Leeds fans reacted to Lichaj’s comments by accusing the ex-Leeds loanee – he made 16 appearances for Leeds between February 2011 and May 2011 – of being a sore loser. One fan even described Lichaj as a “Leeds reject”.
