Leeds fans react as English club reportedly closing in on Whites 20-year-old, player keen on move
Blackpool are reportedly closing in on a move to sign Leeds youngster Olly Casey on a permanent deal. Casey is a regular in the Under-23 side but the chances of him breaking into the senior side seem unlikely. Now, Blackpool are ready to take advantage and sign Casey – and Leeds fans have reacted.
Casey, 20, has broken into the Leeds side on three occasions but he last played in the 3-0 Crawley loss. The League One side secured a surprise 3-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup third round. Casey came on but failed to stop the flow of goals.
The YEP now report that Casey is a target for Blackpool and a move is likely to go through – with the player keen on a move. However, Casey is currently on holiday in Portugal and a move is likely to be delayed given that he will have to quarantine on his return. He has a contract until 2023.
Casey needs to leave Leeds for Blackpool – and fans agree
The signings of Robin Koch and Diego Llorente, and the rise of Pascal Struijk have seen Casey drop down the pecking order. Liam Cooper remains a key part of the side, meaning that Leeds have four first-team centre-backs. In the 23’s, Casey is not even the best centre-back option.
Indeed, Charlie Cresswell is younger and showing more potential than Casey. So, he is sixth choice in terms of centre-backs – with Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips likely to be considered above Casey. He needs to go and a move to a newly-promoted Blackpool is a really exciting prospect for Casey.
Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to the reports and many believes it is a good move for the Thorp Arch academy product.
