Leeds have been linked with a number of Argentine stars since Marcelo Bielsa joined the club in the summer of 2018, none more so than Rodrigo De Paul – but another is in the form of his life, and Leeds fans want him signed.
The Whites tried to lure De Paul to Elland Road in the summer of 2020, but could never reach Udinese’s asking price and ultimately – he remained with the Italian club. Other clubs are now interested, including Inter and Liverpool.
Other Argentine stars have been linked with a move to Elland Road. The likes of Stuttgart’s Nicolas Gonzalez is one example, Tottenham Hotspur’s Juan Foyth another. Emi Buendia of Norwich, though, is one Leeds fans want.
On Tuesday night, the playmaker produced another example of just why numerous Premier League clubs are interested in his services. A stunning goal in a 7-0 win over Huddersfield, he also laid on a whopping three assists.
It took the playmaker’s stats this season to a whopping 28 goal involvements in just 33 Championship appearances. He has scored 12 goals, and laid on a huge 16 assists as Norwich with the Canaries a win away from promotion.
Leeds were linked Buendia when they gained promotion to the Premier League last summer. The Independent claimed last summer that Buendia was a target for the Leeds, and in January the Athletic stated Victor Orta is a fan.
Ahead of the summer, Leeds are likely to still be in the market for a player like Buendia. Having failed to get De Paul, a medical for Michael Cuisance also fell through and other midfielders were also linked.
Instead, Leeds failed to get any. It has seen Rodrigo play deeper, left-back Stuart Dallas mould into playing the role previously adopted by Mateusz Klich and even Tyler Roberts, linked with a loan exit in January, begin to play.
Leeds need an attacking midfielder and of course, it helps when you come from the same country as the manager. Buendia offers versatility, something Bielsa likes – able to play on either flank or in the 10 role.
Arsenal are being heavily linked – with Eurosport stating that the Gunners will revisit a move in the summer for the £40million-rated (Goal) playmaker. Such a figure seems high for a Championship player, despite his form.
But if such a figure does reduce, even with Premier League football returning to Norwich, then Leeds should be interested given their need for a player like Buendia – and the fact he is in the form of his life.
Leeds fans took to Twitter after watching him destroy Carlos Corberan’s Huddersfield on Tuesday night and many have ordered the likes of Orta to lure him to Yorkshire – potentially ending a long-winded pursuit of the playmaker.
Been saying it all season;
