Leeds United’s Under-23 side produced another impressive performance on Monday afternoon as they earned a point in London against Fulham – and many Whites fans applauded the performance of goalkeeper Elia Caprile.
Mark Jackson’s men gained promotion as champions of Premier League 2, Division 2 in their last outing – which resulted in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa. With two games still to play, Leeds looked to maintain their high standards.
Monday’s opponents were Fulham, who have struggled this season and sit in a lowly tenth place. Jackson named a youthful side, with Jamie Shackleton the only player with any decent kind of first-team experience under his belt.
While the normal performers such as Sam Greenwood, Cody Drameh and Olly Casey impressed – Leeds were pegged back more than they have become accustomed to. They were forced to rely upon Italian stopper Caprile.
The 19-year-old clocked up his 20th appearance of the season for the reserves, and instantly made a brilliant save after Nohan Kenneh gave the ball away – denying a Fulham attacker that had gone through on goal.
Throughout, the Italian was excellent and while he could do little about Connor McAvoy’s equaliser after Sam Greenwood’s opener – he impressed without earning a clean sheet. He earned praise from Leeds fans on Twitter.
