Leeds fans react as defender Aapo Halme joins Yorkshire rivals Barnsley

Many supporters feel the defender deserved more of a chance.

Leeds United have confirmed on their official website that defender Aapo Halme has left the club to join local rivals Barnsley.

The club say he has left for an undisclosed fee and could line up against the Whites next season following the Tykes’ promotion back to the Championship.

A statement read: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Aapo for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”

But given that Leeds are short on central defenders – and that the options they do have are prone to injuries – many supporters are not happy at all that the club have let him go.

It doesn’t even seem to be the fact that it’s Barnsley that has gone the supporters annoyed – although no doubt there will be an online inquest if Halme scores or keeps a clean sheet against Leeds next season.

There’s a feeling that he deserved more chances in the first team based on his performances at youth level and that he could have developed into a handy prospect to boost Marcelo Bielsa’s defensive ranks.
