Leeds fans react as Cole Gibbon signs first professional contract at club

Cole Gibbon signed his first professional contract with Leeds United on Friday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter responded to the news by wishing him the best of luck.

The teenage midfielder penned a one-year deal with the Yorkshire club (official website), which runs until the the summer of 2021.

Gibbon, 18, is a central midfielder that has been on the club’s books since the age of 10 and risen through the youth system, which has now been rewarded with a first professional deal.

He was a regular in the Under-18s squad last season, but is now expected to be pushed up to the Under-23s group for the upcoming campaign as he takes another step closer to the first team.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has shown a real desire to promote talented youngster at Elland Road and there has been a string of players given an opportunity such as Jamie Shackleton, Leif Davis and Robbie Gotts in the main team.

Gibbon now has the task of trying to impress in the Under-23s side when football action resumes and it will be another step up for him, but a selection of Leeds supporters on social media offered some kind words.
