Leeds United are reportedly set to complete the signing of Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente with a deal expected to exceed £18.5million in the coming weeks – and Whites supporters have responded on Twitter.
Llorente, 27, is a Spain international that has clocked up 88 appearances in all competitions for La Liga side Real Sociedad since joining the club on a permanent basis from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017. He has a contract until 2022.
Renowned for being a ball-playing centre-back, Llorente also offers cover as a defensive midfielder – much like Robin Koch – but is just as equipped in the air. Leeds needed a centre-back despite the arrival of Koch, and it appears Llorente is an option.
Spanish outlet Noticias De Gipuzkoa have claimed that Leeds are ready to pay more than £18.5million to sign Llorente this summer. It is believed a move is imminent, a deal which will make Llorente the club’s third most-expensive ever signing.
The Whites have replaced the loss of Ben White with Koch, but with Gaetano Berardi sidelined for the majority of the 2020-21 season and seemingly out of contract – the Whites needed another defender and it appears Llorente is that man.
Leeds supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Llorente is seemingly on his way over to Yorkshire in the coming months – and many are delighted to see the club making waves in the transfer market, after Koch and Rodrigo.
This would be a helluva an upgrade on what they have at the moment https://t.co/VcI1NLlM35
