Leeds United are reportedly interested in rivalling Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Celtic and Southampton for teenage Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt this summer – and Whites fans are seemingly all for the idea.

Wigan are looking to bring in much-needed cash for a number of their players this summer, with QPR having a bid accepted for target man Kieffer Moore. Gelhardt, 18, is another player that is likely to be on the move.

The Sun claimed over the weekend that all five clubs were interested in signing the teenager, who has netted just one senior goal in 20 appearances for Paul Cook’s side. The Yorkshire Evening Post has since backed up that interest.

The latter also claim that Wigan insiders have compared Gelhardt – who has three goals in six appearances for England’s Under-18 side – to that of Manchester United legend and Derby County captain Wayne Rooney.

It is believed that landing Gelhardt would be seen as a real coup for the Whites given the competition after his signature. He is also not the only young player that Leeds are believed to have considered signing.

Leeds supporters have reacted on Twitter to reports that they are rivalling some of Britain’s biggest sides including Tottenham and Celtic, and some are keen to see Gelhardt move to Elland Road.
