TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Leeds tabled the eight-figure offer after the 24-year-old’s sparkling form in Serie A caught the eye of Whites hierarchy. He scored 16 league goals in the top flight.

The two-time Italy international partnered former Leeds United ace Mirco Antenucci up front last season, while he was on loan from Atalanta. Antenucci has since left SPAL and joined Bari.

Petagna signed a permanent move to SPAL earlier this season but he Italian striker’s available if Leeds want to up their original bid of £13.8million to a fee in the region of £23million.

Leeds boast Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe up front, but the duo only managed 25 goals combined and both spent a considerable amount of time on the sidelines. A third striker could be considered by Marcelo Bielsa.

It appears that former AC Milan striker Petagna is on Leeds’ shortlist but it remains to be seen if the reports are true about Leeds making a bid. Leeds fans reacted to the news their club could be interested in a move for Petagna.
