Atletico Madrid are on the lookout for a replacement for Diego Costa after the Spaniard was released by Diego Simeone’s side earlier this week, and one report claims Leeds star Rodrigo is being eyed – prompting reaction from Leeds supporters.
Rodrigo, 29, joined Leeds in the summer for a club-record £27million fee from Valencia – as Leeds took advantage of the Spanish club’s financial difficulty to bring the Spain international to Elland Road. He has since impressed for the Yorkshire side.
Indeed, he has scored three goals – despite having to change his position with Patrick Bamford shining up front. The English ace has netted 10 goals in 15 games, and that has forced Rodrigo to drop into attacking midfield.

But goals against Manchester City, Newcastle and West Brom have certainly see Rodrigo begin to pay back his hefty transfer fee. However, his improving form might have caught the attention of Simeone and Atletico, who will be after a striker in January.
TuttoNapoli claim that Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik is top of Atleti’s shortlist – but Rodrigo, Espanyol’s Raul De Tomas and Real Betis ace Loren Moron are also options. Rodrigo signed a contract worth £58,000 a week (Spotrac) until 2024.
Leeds supporters reacted to the reported news that Rodrigo could become a target for Atletico Madrid, and while many are confident the striker is to remain at Elland Road – one fan stated that every player has his price.
