Anthony Taylor has been picked to referee Leeds United’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday in a match that is sure to bring rekindle a bitter rivalry that has remained between supporters since relegation in 2004 – and Leeds fans are concerned.
It is the big one, for Leeds fans. When the fixtures were announced, many Leeds supporters will have told you that they looked out for the clash against Manchester United. It is the first fixture in the Premier League for 16 years.
The decision on which referee will take charge on Sunday evening, then, is a big one for the FA to make. The have appointed Taylor, who has already given two red cards and seven penalties in nine Premier League matches this season.
Taylor has already officiated two Leeds games this season, one of which was the 4-3 win over Fulham in which Taylor awarded Leeds a penalty – which Mateusz Klich scored. He also sent Nicolas Pepe off in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
However, Leeds fans are not impressed. Whites fans have clocked on to the fact that Taylor is from Wythenshawe – the same place as Marcus Rashford. They have questioned how Taylor has been given the game, especially when so much is riding on it.
One thing Leeds fans will be happy to see, though, is that he reffed United’s 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.
