Patrick Bamford has told the Leeds United podcast what Gjanni Alioski said about Sunday’s clash against Arsenal and in particular, Nicolas Pepe, in the changing room following Monday’s win over Palace – and Leeds fans have responded.
Alioski, 28, has been a regular for Leeds this season – breaking into the side after initially being on the bench. He has since featured in 20 of the club’s 22 Premier League fixtures this season, starting 17 of those outings under Marcelo Bielsa.
Earlier in the season, Leeds drew 0-0 with Arsenal – a match in which Alioski started at left-back and came up against Ivory Coast international Nicolas Pepe. The North Macedonia ace wound Pepe up, eventually getting him sent off.
Pepe has since been used on the left flank instead of the right – where he faced Alioski, but Bamford has told the Leeds podcast that Alioski is looking forward to playing against Pepe again, having got the better of him last time out.
“Do you know what he [Alioski] said in the changing room? He said: ‘I can’t wait for Sunday’. I said, ‘Why?’, he said: ‘Because I’m playing against my mate Pepe again’,” Bamford told the official Leeds podcast, ahead of Sunday’s clash in North London.
It is another example of Alioski living up to his reputation as a colourful character in the Leeds squad. He is renowned for his antics – shaking the tunnel before the match, winding opposition players up or even shouting at Kalvin Phillips from the pool.
Leeds fans reacted to the claim made by Bamford about Alioski in the dressing room following Monday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace – and Whites supporters have reacted on Twitter.
