Leeds United suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United on Monday evening as the London hoodoo for Marcelo Bielsa’s side continues, last winning in the Capital three years ago – but Whites supporters were impressed with one of their substitutes.
Jesse Lingard opened the scoring after tapping home the rebound, following Illan Meslier’s save from his penalty. It was two when Aaron Cresswell’s corner found Craig Dawson – after both Tyler Roberts and Patrick Bamford had goals disallowed.
Leeds dominated the second half but Patrick Bamford missed a glorious chance from eight yards out, Raphinha had a stinging effort that hit the palms of Lukasz Fabianski – and Vladimir Coufal came within a matter of inches of scoring an own goal.
A frustrating night, despite the performance. Leeds are out of form and perhaps lacking in confidence somewhat – after four defeats in their last five games. But there were lots of positives, and one of those was the performance of the returning Rodrigo.
Rodrigo was sidelined for six Premier League games after suffering a groin issue in the 3-1 win over Leicester City. He came on, replacing Tyler Roberts on the hour mark, and Leeds looked much more dangerous. Fans praised the £58k-a-week (Spotrac) ace.
