Leeds fans rave about £18m attacker’s Sunday display, some want Bielsa reunion

Andre Ayew proved to be the difference on Sunday evening as Swansea took a giant leap towards the Championship play-off final with a 1-0 win over Brentford – and Leeds United fans were impressed with his performance.

Referee Keith Stroud had his work cut out as Swansea looked like a team with all the momentum against a worried Brentford side. Rhian Brewster missed numerous chances before eventually winning a penalty for the Swans.

Ayew, 30, stepped up – after Pontus Jansson had tripped Liverpool loanee Brewster – but David Raya made a big one-handed save to keep the Bees in the game. Stroud then made a somewhat surprising decision to show a red card.

Rico Henry’s tackle seemed as though the left-back had won the ball, but the Brentford number three was shown a red card. It gave Swansea the impetus and with less than 10 minutes to go, Ayew made up for his penalty miss.

He lashed home a bouncing ball from 16 yards out into the top corner of Raya’s goal, netting his 18th of the season. Back in December, African outlet GhanaSoccerNet claimed that Leeds wanted Ayew.

The £18million (Telegraph) Swansea man worked under Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille before moving to these shores with Swansea, in what was his first spell with the Welsh side – separated by a brief spell at West Ham.

Leeds fans reacted to his display amid rumours Leeds could look to form a reunion at Elland Road between Bielsa and the Ghana attacker – and many were impressed with Ayew, while some urged their club to sign him.
