Leeds fans praise Kiko Casilla after another clean sheet in victory over Brentford

Leeds United went top of the Championship last night with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford at Elland Road.

Eddie Nketiah got the all-important goal off the bench, continuing his red-hot form, underlining how Leeds’ work in the transfer market has strengthened the squad this season going forward.

But it should not be underestimated that they look more secure at the back as well, and last night saw Kiko Casilla keep his third straight clean sheet.

Last season ended with the experienced Spanish stopper right under fire for the way his reckless charging out off his line changed the complexion of the play-off semi-final second leg against Derby.

But Marcelo Bielsa has kept his faith in Casilla, who is using all of his experience to recover and try and get the fans back onside – and succeeding so far.

The supporters on Twitter appear to be back onside with the Spaniard and lavished praise on the keeper, with some even calling him the best in the division.

Leeds’ promotion push this season was always going to rely on Casilla being more reliable and calm. Stiffer tests are coming, but the signs are good and the supporters are responding.
