Leeds fans praise Kalvin Phillips display on England debut

Kalvin Phillips made his senior England debut on Tuesday night – and some Leeds United fans on Twitter praised their player for his international performance.

The 24-year-old started in England’s Nations League fixture away to Denmark, which finished goalless in a fairly dull game.

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate gave the Leeds midfielder his first international cap and he played 76 minutes before being replaced by Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Phillips slotted into the England system as part of a midfield pairing next to West Ham’s Declan Rice, but the two struggled to gel at the beginning and are both individuals that like to sit.

It seemed like there was a lack of creativity going forward for England and that’s something Southgate will need to work out before the next international break.

After a slow start, Phillips built in confidence to receive plenty of possession and show off his great range of passing with plenty of switches of play.

He’s an all-action midfielder that wasn’t sitting as a deep-lying playmaker like he usually does at Elland Road, but he grew into his England debut and looked strong in the second-half.
