Leeds United suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night in the Premier League – but some of the club’s supporters on Twitter praised their goalkeeper Illan Meslier despite his unfortunate moment in net.

The Whites were beaten by a one-goal margin at Molineux, which means that Wolves leapfrogged them in the league table up to 11th and completed a double over them this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team had plenty of goalscoring opportunities, including a stoppage time effort from Helder Costa that he hit straight at goalkeeper Rui Patrcio.

Additionally, Patrick Bamford’s emphatic goal was ruled out for the closest of offsides by VAR and captain Liam Cooper missed a couple of headed chances as well.

Wolves, who had plenty of goalscoring chances of their own, seized the three points with a huge slice of luck.

Adama Traore’s thunderous effort rebounded off the post straight at the goalkeeper and into the net.

But a selection of Leeds supporters on social media were extremely complimentary of  Meslier despite the own goal.

The 20-year-old was on hand to make a couple of excellent saves, including one for the cameras from a long-range Pedro Neto effort.

Here are some Leeds fans discussing Meslier:
