A number of Leeds United fans have criticised Alan Shearer’s decision not to name Whites goalkeeper Illan Meslier in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.
The 20-year-old Frenchman has been entrusted with the first-team gloves at Elland Road and is improving with each passing matchday, culminating in a superb performance on Sunday.
Meslier kept a clean sheet as Leeds ran out 1-0 winners over Sheffield United, making a string of great saves including two remarkable ones to deny John Lundstram and George Baldock.

The Whites’ victory, sealed through a late Patrick Bamford header, helped them up to seventh in the table with six points from three games.
As good as Meslier’s display was – and Shearer did admit he was a big shout for the TOTW goalkeeper slot – matchday 3 did also provide a masterclass from Newcastle’s Karl Darlow.
The 29-year-old helped the Magpies to a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur, making 11 saves on the way, and got the nod ahead of Meslier in Shearer’s XI.
Some Leeds fans weren’t pleased, however:
Leeds host Manchester City on Saturday before the international break and then return to Premier League action on 17 October against Wolves at Elland Road.
