Leeds fans hammer Marcelo Bielsa signing after Ipswich defeat

Kiko Casilla has hardly shown the form Leeds United had expected of a European champion and ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper since joining the Whites in January – and Leeds fans had some harsh words following the loss to Ipswich.

The 32-year-old, who has also played for Spain, joined Leeds after Jamal Blackman suffered a broken leg while playing for the club’s second string. Casilla has been first choice since.

Landing the signature of Casilla excited Leeds fans. Not only were they adding a goalkeeper of huge calibre and quality to their side, but it was a signal of intent. Leeds could sign Real Madrid players – and afford it.

Fast forward until now, and there are serious doubts as to why Casilla was ever on Real Madrid’s books. He has conceded only 15 goals in 16 games, managing five clean sheets. But it is his decision making that angers fans.

The Spaniard is beginning to develop a reputation of being rash, struggling to command his penalty area. Ipswich played upon it on Sunday afternoon, and left Leeds to lick their wounds after a calamitous 3-2 defeat.

With the scores at 2-2 against 10-man Ipswich following Kemar Roofe’s penalty miss, a long ball caused confusion. Instead of commanding his box, Casilla stuttered and a mix-up with Luke Ayling allowed Colin Quaner to score.

Leeds fans took to Twitter in utter frustration at the Ipswich goal, with many asking if Casilla really is the goalkeeper that Leeds had expected him to be since he signed on the dotted line.
