Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has ruled Kalvin Phillips out of playing against Wolves at Elland Road this weekend – and Leeds fans have replied.
Phillips, 25, was absent from the 1-0 defeat to Southampton last weekend. Indeed, he missed England’s two fixtures during the international break.
But he returned to training this week and fans were hopeful that Phillips would be back in midfield. Wolves propose a strong challenge, on Saturday.
However, Bielsa has delivered some bad news. Despite Phillips being fit to play at Elland Road this weekend, Bielsa wants him to rebuild his fitness.
The Argentine gaffer confirmed in a press conference that Saturday will come too soon for Phillips – with more training sessions needed.
What are Leeds fans saying as Bielsa gives Phillips update?
Leeds fans are not happy, at the moment. Just one win in eight Premier League matches, and a 1-0 defeat to Southampton, has left many worried.
Worried that they could be in a relegation scrap, and suffer a second season drop. Injuries are also beginning to mount, just at the wrong time.
Bielsa also ruled out Junior Firpo, Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling from Saturday’s outing – along with Phillips. Raphinha, though, is available.
It is a blow, with Leeds needing a good result against Wolves and then Norwich next week. They are either side of a Cup clash against Arsenal.
Responding to the decision that Bielsa has ruled out Phillips this weekend, Leeds fans were left frustrated on Twitter at the news.
