Leeds United look more likely than ever to finish in the Championship play-offs after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Brentford at Griffin Park on Monday evening – and Leeds fans are fed up with Mateusz Klich.

The pressure was piled on Marcelo Bielsa’s side by Sheffield United, who earned an excellent 3-0 win away at Hull City earlier on in the day. A win was needed to keep on level points with the Blades.

But a late strike in the first half by the impressive Neil Maupay was followed by a 62nd-minute effort from Sergi Canos to down Leeds, and earn the Bees three points.

Leeds were ineffective throughout the entire contest, seemingly weighed down by the pressure of finishing in the top two. No risks were taken, creativity was lacking, and tiredness consumed the players.

A £1.5million signing from FC Twente in the summer of 2017, Klich has been excellent for Leeds this season. But on Monday afternoon, he was a shadow of the man that has even earned his own song from the Whites fans.

Eight goals and eight assists from the middle of the park have helped Leeds battle for promotion. But the Poland international has now failed to find the back of the net in his last seven league appearances.

Leeds fans took to Twitter after the match to criticise the attacking midfielder, claiming he has gone off the boil in recent matches. With the play-offs looming, Klich’s diminishing form could not have come at the worst time.
