Brentford delivered a huge blow to Leeds United’s chances of achieving automatic promotion to the Premier League with a 2-0 victory at Griffin Park on Monday – and Leeds fans were left to drool over striker Neal Maupay.
Goals from the French hitman and winger Sergi Canos downed Leeds, leaving Marcelo Bielsa’s side in third place with only two games left to play. They are now three points behind Sheffield United.
Canos’ excellent through ball saw Maupay go one-on-one with Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, after Pontus Janssonw as caught out of position. He finished exquisitely to score his 24th Championship goal of the season.

Former Liverpool star Canos bundled one over the line himself in the second half, but it was Maupay’s talisman-like performance that earned Brentford all three points – as he remained a handful for Leeds all afternoon.
Still only 22 years of age, Maupay bullied Liam Cooper and Jansson throughout. His mixture of pace and power was far too good for the Whites, who played without taking any risks and a real lack of creativity.
Leeds fans took to Twitter, with many claiming that if they had a striker like Maupay they would have gained promotion to the Premier League with ease. Sky Sports claim he is worth a whopping £20million.
