Leeds United flop Vurnon Anita turned 30 on Thursday as he continues to impress on loan in the Dutch Eredivisie with Willem II – and Leeds fans have discussed his future on Twitter.
Anita joined Leeds on a free transfer in the summer of 2017 as one of Victor Orta’s first signings after becoming director of football. Many fans believed the Netherlands international was somewhat of a coup.
Leeds had lured the former Ajax star to Elland Road for nothing just weeks after Newcastle had gained promotion to the Premier League. Anita had played 31 times for The Toon in all competitions during 2016-17.

Under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, though, it simply did not work out for Anita. Naturally a holding midfielder, Anita was used largely at left-back and also at right-back.
It saw the utility player struggle to show Leeds fans what he is all about. He managed 22 appearances for Leeds, going in and out of the team with suspension and injury preventing him from developing any momentum.
Leeds fans discussed Anita’s future on Twitter, with many of the belief that he was harshly treated during his short stint at Elland Road. He still has a contract with Leeds until the summer of 2020.
However, some believe he simply was not good enough and the right decision has been made to usher him out on loan.
