Leeds fans discuss Jamie Shackleton display Whites draw with Blackburn
Leeds United came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw in their first pre-season friendly of the summer, as Pascal Struijk cancelled out Connor McBride’s opener. Marcelo Bielsa’s side were backed by 5000 travelling Leeds fans – and supporters raved about Jamie Shackleton on Twitter.
Officially, Leeds began their pre-season on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over non-league Guiseley – but the Under-23’s played in that match. On Wednesday night, it was near full strength. Kalvin Phillips was not involved, while Patrick Bamford was missing from the side. Helder Costa started.
What have Leeds fans said about Shackleton on Twitter?
Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas started on the bench with new signing Junior Firpo at left-back. Shackleton, 21, was at right-back in Ayling’s normal role and was stunning for the Whites in the first half. He was up and down, covering the lack of cover given to him by the new number 10 – Raphinha.
McBride opened the scoring on 73 minutes. McBride’s deflected free-kick beat Illan Meslier and hit the back of the net – with Blackburn producing a solid performance. But it was Struijk that got the equaliser, after good play from Harrison. Leeds fans raved about the display of Shackleton.
