Leeds United were hammered 4-1 at Elland Road by Leicester City on Monday night as Brendan Rodgers tactically outwitted Marcelo Bielsa despite fielding a patched-up back four – but Leeds fans still applauded Jack Harrison’s efforts.

Leicester came into the match without defenders Daniel Amartey, Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, Timothy Castagne and Caglar Soyuncu. It saw Rodgers name a back three of Christian Fuchs, Wesley Fofana and James Justin.

Meanwhile, Leeds were missing Kalvin Phillips, Diego Llorente, Raphinha and Rodrigo – and it showed. Leicester were 2-0 up after 20 minutes. Harvey Barnes scored in the second minute after a mistake from Robin Koch.

Youri Tielemans made it two after Illan Meslier stopped a shot. Stuart Dallas pegged one back and Leeds looked a lot better after the restart, but only up until Jamie Vardy scored after James Maddison played in Cengiz Under.

A fourth came after Mateusz Klich conceded a penalty in injury time, with Tielemans doubling his tally. Leeds were outclassed, with Leicester scoring their goals at crucial times – and Leeds missing them.

Harrison, 23, was one of Leeds’ brighter players. He notched the assist for Dallas’ goal, which was somewhat fortuitous. But the Manchester City loanee seemed as though he was the only Leeds player to show any kind of adventure.

WhoScored say Harrison made four key passes, the same as the rest of his Leeds teammates including substitutes. He also swung in eight crosses, and Leeds fans applauded the £15,000-a-week (Spotrac) star for his efforts, despite the defeat.
