Brentford kept the pressure on Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening as they produced a 1-0 win over Preston thanks to Ollie Watkins’ first-half goal – and Leeds fans have discussed signing the striker.
Watkins, 24, has been in sensational form for an excellent Brentford side this season – sitting at the top of the Championship goalscoring charts with 25 league goals in 44 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side.
He took his tally to 25 after just four minutes. He latched on to a chipped through ball from Emiliano Marcondes, before having the confidence to hit a half-volley first time past the helpless Declan Rudd.

Preston had chances to find the back of the net themselves, with David Raya producing an excellent save to keep out Darnell Fisher’s free-kick. But other than that, Brentford were mostly comfortable.
They narrowed the gap between themselves and Leeds United to just three points, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side playing on Thursday night – as the Whites host struggling Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Elland Road.
The Sun claimed in March that West Ham were looking at Watkins, while Sky Sports claim the striker is rated at a modest £20million. Leeds fans discussed luring Watkins to Elland Road, if the Whites are promoted.
