Leeds fans discuss Arsenal star, as report claims he will leave for ‘low transfer fee’

A report from The Sun claims Arsenal will allow the exit of Eddie Nketiah for a ‘low transfer fee’ in January, with Borussia Monchengladbach keen. The striker is out of contract at the end of the season. Leeds fans have caught wind of the reports, and some are desperate to see him return.

Nketiah, 22, is currently Arsenal’s third-choice striker under Mikel Arteta – with the Gunners gaffer preferring to use one up top. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is first choice, having netted seven times this season. Alexandre Lacazette has been in and out of the side recently.

France international Lacazette started on Sunday against Watford as a 10, which meant Nketiah got on the bench for the first time this season in the Premier League. He has played just two games, scoring two goals in two Carabao Cup games against Wimbledon, and then of course, Leeds.

But he is not getting enough game time – far from it. Arsenal have handed Folarin Balogun a new deal, and he is likely to be given the faith to impress – over Nketiah. The England Under-21 star looks more and more likely to leave in the next few months. A January exit is a serious possibility.

That is because the winter window presents the last chance for Arsenal to bring in some cash for their academy product. The Sun report that The Gunners will accept a cut-price fee for Nketiah, with German Bundesliga side Gladbach said to be interested in luring Nketiah away from England.

Leeds need a striker, Arsenal want to sell Nketiah – reunion?

Nketiah’s close Arsenal friends Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith-Rowe have both spent time in Germany – with Hoffenheim and Leipzig respectively. Nketiah could be next, but on a permanent basis. But should Leeds be considering a move for Nketiah, given he can go on the cheap?

Of course, Nketiah played for Leeds during the year in which Marcelo Bielsa secured promotion to the Premier League. He spent the first half of the season on loan, scoring five goals in 19 games – starting only four of those. That lack of game time saw Nketiah return to The Emirates in January.

But Leeds need a striker. Patrick Bamford remains sidelined with an ankle injury that is becoming more and more long-term. Joe Gelhardt is showing promise, but is yet to earn the trust of Marcelo Bielsa to start. Rodrigo is showing signs, but is yet to provide Leeds with a consistent threat up top.

What are Leeds fans saying about Arsenal star Nketiah?

Tyler Roberts, meanwhile, seems to have lost the patience of Leeds fans – with the Wales international still only scoring one goal for the Whites in the Premier League. Leeds need a goalscorer, especially judging by their performance against Leicester on Sunday – missing that final touch.

Leeds fans have responded on Twitter to reports that Nketiah is available for a small fee in the January window – and want the striker in Yorkshire.
