Leeds fans disagree with some of Marcelo Bielsa’s latest comments

Marcelo Bielsa has told his pre-Preston press conference – as quoted by Leeds Live – that Leeds United need to capitalise more from corner kicks and set-pieces – and Leeds fans have disagreed with his comments.

Leeds earned a 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon to sit in second place behind West Bromwich Albion. Kalvin Phillips’ second-half strike was enough as Leeds celebrated their 100-year anniversary.

It was a similar story for Leeds, though. Bielsa’s men dominated possession and had a number of chances to find the back of the net, but fans were made to feel nervous before they finally made the breakthrough after good play from Jack Harrison.

So much so, that Bielsa is hoping to see more goals from corners and free-kicks in the coming matches to ease the pressure on those going forward – that despite there being more of an issue defending corners this season, comparede to last.

“If you achieve to score and avoid the opponent scoring set-pieces, this factor is very important. You have seen in some moments last season we had difficulties resolving this. A little bit less in the current yea,” Bielsa said.

“For a team like ours, that doesn’t have ideal efficiency to score, scoring set-pieces is something really good.”

Leeds take on Preston on Tuesday night at Deepdale as they look to make it eight wins from 13 league games this season. A win would see the Whites return to the Championship summit, if West Brom fail to beat Barnsley at the Hawthorns.

Leeds fans reacted to Bielsa’s comments about corners and set-pieces, and many believe it is the wrong decision to try and convince his side to score from corners – because many are of the belief that they are not particularly strong in that area.
