Leeds fans demand Gaetano Berardi is recalled against Brentford

Leeds United travel to Brentford on Tuesday night for a crunch fixture in the Championship – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have insisted that defender Gaetano Berardi should be recalled to the side.

The Yorkshire club go to Griffin Park in dreadful form that has seen them lose four of their last five league games and wreck their position inside the automatic promotion spots.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team are still second in the table, but are now only above third-placed Fulham on goal difference and have seen their advantage at the top disappear.

The Whites know they will drop down from second if they lose away to Brentford in midweek and it’s reaching a pivotal stage in their season, where they need to return to winning ways quickly.

Leeds were beaten 2-0 away to Nottingham Forest at the weekend and many are hoping for a changes in the starting XI, especially as midfielder Kalvin Phillips is back from suspension.

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media have demanded that Berardi is thrown back into the starting line up.

The 31-year-old hasn’t started a league fixture since December and been watching on mainly from the bench, but has played in 18 games across all competitions this season.

He’s a no-nonsense centre-back that could add some extra steel to the backline if selected and is a real fan favourite for his aggressive style.

The experienced defender played half an hour on Monday for the club’s Under-23s side in a 4-1 win over Bolton Wanderers and it was a planned brief spell on the pitch to get some minutes in his legs.
