Leeds United’s Under-23 side produced a very good display to draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup on Friday afternoon – and Whites fans have heaped praise on two-goal midfielder Stuart McKinstry.
Leeds’ second string came into the match with a win very much needed, after picking up just one point from nine in Group H of the Premier League Cup. Just one point from two games against Birmingham and a 7-1 loss to Derby have hurt Leeds.
However, Carlos Corberan’s side looked inspired on Friday afternoon at Wolves’ training complex. Though they were forced to play on the counter attack for much of the match, the Whites earned an excellent point.
Corberan, though, will be frustrated that Leeds surrendered a 2-0 lead – given to them by Scottish midfielder McKinstry. His first came after Mateusz Bogusz played in Ryan Edmondson whose shot was parried into the air, only for McKinstry to tap in.
His second was even better. A lovely pass from left-back Theo Hudson saw McKinstry nutmeg a defender before bearing down on goal. Although his first shot was saved, McKinstry managed to fire home a second.
Goals from Ashley Seal and Luke Cundle saw Leeds share the spoils, but Whites fans were very impressed with summer signing McKinstry – who continues to impress despite his tender age of just 17 following his summer move from Motherwell.
