Leeds fans delighted with one player, despite heavy defeat to Liverpool
Leeds United suffered a heavy defeat to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, losing 3-0 – but Leeds fans were impressed with Illan Meslier.
Meslier, 21, clocked up his 51st appearance for Leeds on Sunday as the Whites hosted Jurgen Klopp’s side. But it was not one to remember.
The French goalkeeper conceded three goals as Mo Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane all netted. Pascal Struijk saw red on the hour mark.
The left-footed ace tackled Harvey Elliott from behind, dislocating the teenager’s ankle. He was sent off, following the aftermath of Elliott’s injury.
A bad day at the office for Leeds, as Liverpool did not really need to get out of third gear to win the game. A comfortable one, for the men in red.
What are Leeds fans saying about Meslier, after Liverpool display?
Not many Leeds fans came out of the match in a positive light. But one player that has been praised is France Under-21 ace Meslier.
The goalkeeper denied Liverpool on numerous occasions, as Leeds struggled to cope with the Reds. Liverpool’s attack was far too much.
Liverpool only managed to score three despite 30 attempts, nine of which were on target. Had it not been for Meslier, Leeds would have suffered.
WhoScored state that Meslier tops the rankings in terms of saves made – producing 16 in four, alongside Edouard Mendy and Kasper Schmeichel.
Leeds fans have applauded their goalkeeper Meslier despite the loss. One supporter labelled a save made by the youngster as “cracking”.
