Aapo Halme was one of three Leeds United players to join Barnsley in the summer and the Finnish colossus has taken to life at Oakwell. Now, Leeds fans are delighted on Twitter with his latest display – against rivals Derby County.
Halme, 21, broke into the Leeds side last season mainly due to a lack of depth at centre-back. Injuries to Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson throughout the 2018-19 campaign saw Halme clock up five senior appearances for Leeds.
He was sold to Barnsley in the summer, along with exciting young winger Mallik Wilks and Clarke Odour. They joined Alex Mowatt at Oakwell, who is becoming a real fan favourite with Tykes fans since his move in January 2017.
Starting the 2019-20 campaign on the bench, Halme broke into the side towards the end of August and has started Barnsley’s last five league games. On Wednesday night, he came up against Leeds’ bitter Championship rivals Derby.
The venom between Leeds and Derby continues to grow after last season’s Spygate scandal, as well as the Championshiop play-off semi-finals. Songs, Tweets from Derby players about Leeds fair play award and more, have continued the rivalry.
So Leeds fans were delighted to see Halme get on the end of a Mowatt free-kick to give Barnsley the lead against Philipp Cocu’s side. The match ended 2-2, and Leeds supporters took to Twitter after the match to applaud Halme.

Just want to go on record and say that I love Aapo Halme as much as it's possible for a #LUFC fan to love a Barnsley player.
