Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has given an injury update ahead of the midweek clash with Brentford. There are three injury doubts for the weekend, including Liam Cooper, Leeds’ official Twitter reports.
Cooper’s absence will be sorely felt if he does end up missing the game against Brentford. He is the captain and first-choice central defender on Leeds’ books. This is a vital position and one where Leeds do not have much squad depth.
Ben White arrived on loan from Brighton in the summer but he was the only new signing. Several players left, including Pontus Jansson, Paudie O’Connor, Liam Kitching, Aapo Halme and Hugo Diaz.
Bielsa will be weighing up his options but it all involves a reshuffle. Kalvin Phillips could drop back but then Leeds would need to replace him in holding midfield. Gaetano Berardi could slot in but then Bielsa needs a new right-back.
Alternatively, Leif Davis could be given a start at centre-back after impressing against Salford City in the cup. Pascal Struijk is another youngster pushing for a start. But these options are all last-resorts. Here are some tweets discussing Cooper’s potential injury.
And so it begins! 🤦♂️
