Leeds United suffered a home defeat to Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter criticised defender Luke Ayling for his performance.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team were beaten 2-0 at Elland Road in the Championship fixture and were undone by two late goals for the visitors.

Jacob Murphy netted from a tight angle in the 87th minute to open the scoring, before Atdhe Nuhiu wrapped up three points in stoppage time.

The Whites would now sit second in the league standings and have a six-point cushion over third-placed Brentford.

Leeds are still firmly in an automatic promotion spot as it stands, but last season is a reminder that teams at the top can drop off in the second half of a campaign.

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media were not pleased with full-back Ayling following the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 28-year-old right-back was caught of position late on when Wednesday scored in injury time and he wasn’t too effective going forward on the ball.

But his form of late has been impressive for Leeds and one under par game shouldn’t spoil that.
