Leeds United let a three-goal lead slip to draw at home to Cardiff City on Saturday in the Championship – and some of the club’s supporters were critical of substitute Eddie Nketiah for his cameo appearance.
The Whites ended up drawing 3-3 at Elland Road to miss out on returning to the top of the Championship, but do stay in second and are 10 points above third.
Helder Costa and Patrick Bamford (two) were on the scoresheet inside the opening 52 minutes to give the hosts a commanding advantage.
Lee Tomlin then fired in a response in the hour mark, before a dramatic final 10 minutes which saw the game turn on its head.
Cardiff defender Sean Morrison made it 3-2 in the 82nd minute and shortly after was sent off for a late challenge on Nketiah.
But the visitors equalised late on through Robert Glatzel and ended Leeds’ seven-game winning run in the process.
A selection of Leeds supporters on social media singled out Nketiah for criticism for his late contribution against Cardiff.
He entered the action in the 77th minute of the game and was on the pitch for the collapse, as he struggled to make an impact with his cameo.
The 20-year-old centre-forward doesn’t have the same presence as Bamford in attack, but it seems like he’s a scapegoat for a defensive capitulation.
Here are some Leeds fans on Nketiah:
Every time Nketiah comes on the dynamics change..he cannot hold the ball up like @Patrick_Bamford does and hence it get played back..I’ve never been on the ‘get Eddie on now’ bandwagon….not disputing he’s a goalscorer but sometimes when he comes on it rocks the boat #lufc #mot

am i the only one that wouldn’t even be that annoyed if Nketiah went back? #lufc

Think nketiah is an impact player, not really a player to keep hold of a result. If it was 0-0 then sure, but bringing him on at 3-1 was a poor choice. Perhaps another forward option is needed?

Anyone wanting a reason for why Nketiah doesn’t get a look in, look no further than his laziness for the third goal #LUFC

Let me tell you. Nketiah offers this team nothing. Walking about having been on the pitch 10 minutes. Thinks he’s above it. Send him back in Jan and give Edmondson a go. #lufc

Unpopular opinion: I don’t see what Nketiah offers us at all!! Soon as Bamford went off our shape was all over and it cost us! Doesn’t track back, doesn’t look interested. 2 massive points dropped from absolute cruising! Luckily other results marginally went for us #LUFC
