Leeds fans are the worst Michail Antonio has played in front of, with the West Ham striker telling The Footballer’s Football Podcast that the Elland Road faithful often go over the top.

Leeds supporters created an incredible moment at the weekend. Some may have assumed that a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City would see Elland Road turn toxic.

However, the home fans did not stop singing in a remarkable show of defiance. The incident prompted Jesse Marsch to almost celebrate and laud the supporters. He acknowledged that the fans were going to be absolutely pivotal if Leeds are going to keep themselves in the Premier League.

In fact, the Leeds fans have stuck by the team for the large majority of the season. It was notable that many continued to sing Marcelo Bielsa’s name up until, and beyond his departure, despite a dreadful of form.

They deserve a lot of credit. However, opposition players may view the fanbase differently, with Antonio certainly voicing a strong opinion about Leeds supporters.

“The worst fans I’ve played in front of. I don’t like them to be fair. Millwall or Leeds fans. Those two, they are just… I don’t mind hecklers but they are over the top for me,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

Cards on the table, this particular writer is a Leeds fan. And thus, it is hard to agree with Antonio.

Pep Guardiola labelled his experience of being in a packed Elland Road a joy this past weekend. He described Leeds as one of the greatest teams in England.

Some Leeds fans will welcome Antonio’s view. The Whites have always come out swinging when they have felt that their back is against the wall and the world is against them.

Obviously, not every fan deserves credit. But every club has those supporters who bring shame to the fanbase.

Certainly, these comments may not be far from supporters’ minds should Leeds get the opportunity to come up against West Ham and Antonio next season.
