Max Dean scored once again for Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side as Leeds beat Mansfield in the Premier League Cup – and Leeds fans have praised Dean.

Still only 17, Dean is a regular in the Under-23’s. His rapid rise to Jackson’s side has gone somewhat under the radar – but it should not be dismissed.

Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood are certainly the stars of the Under-23 side – but Dean, an old-fashioned no.9 – is producing stats just as good.

Coming into the 23’s, Dean has now clocked up 11 goals in 22 second-string appearances. He got his fifth goal of the season on Monday night.

Jackson took his side to York City’s LNER Community Stadium on Monday, facing League Two side Mansfield Town’s reserves.

Leeds were without numerous internationals including Gelhardt, Greenwood, Lewis Bate, Kristoffer Klaesson and Leo Hjelde among others.

But nevertheless, Jackson watched Sean McGurk and Dean score to beat Mansfield 2-1. He slammed the ball home from six yards out, with his left.

What are Leeds fans saying about Dean, after another 23’s goal?

For Dean, he is quickly becoming a crucial part of the Under-23 side. At just 17, that is an incredible achievement. He is certainly ahead of the curve.

Not only that, but he is getting better and better. His work rate will surely appeal to Marcelo Bielsa’s football, running the channels and pressing.

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to Dean shining for the Whites, with many labelling him underrated. One compared him to Jamie Vardy.
