Leeds United’s Under-23 side booked their place in the last four of the Premier League Cup with a 3-1 win over Burnley’s reserve side – and Leeds fans are delighted with the performance of Hugo Diaz.
Diaz, 22, captained the Leeds side once again as Carlos Corberan’s side targeted a place in the last four. But the Spaniard’s side were pretty lucky to escape with a semi-final slot.
Leif Davis flicked on a Mateusz Bogusz corner, only for a Burnley defender to turn the ball into his own net. The second half saw Burnley press for a second, but Leeds won against the run of play.
Ryan Edmondson scored an excellent header to take his tally to 16 for the season in the Under-23 side. Kun Temenuzhkov found Clarke Oduor, and the winger’s cross was well met by the 17-year-old target man.
Robbie Gotts provided the inspiration for the third, as his superb cross saw Diaz score at the back post. It was Diaz’s second of the season, after the former Deportivo La Coruna defender scored against Southampton in January.
Leeds fans were thoroughly impressed on the whole with Corberan’s side. The likes of Edmondson, Bogusz, Gotts and Davis all starred for the Whites, but fans were very vocal in their praise for captain Diaz.
