Leeds United’s Under-23 side produced a sparkling display to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park 3-1 in their opening PL2 match of the season. Crysencio Summerville, Liam McCarron and Sean McGurk all scored goals. But Leeds fans were amazed by a first-half moment from Jack Jenkins.

In an exciting game at Selhurst Park, Leeds cruised to a win after Palace went down to 10 men on 19 minutes with the score at 1-1. Both sides also saw a penalty saved, with new addition Kristoffer Klaesson enjoying his Leeds debut.

Jenkins, 19, has come in for some criticism of late – which has followed on from his struggling debut against Crawley in the 3-0 defeat last term. A couple of questionable performances for the 23’s have followed. But in his first PL2 game of the season on Monday, Jenkins was excellent.

What are Leeds fans saying about Jenkins?

Indeed, the holding midfielder gained plenty of confidence early on after a gorgeous assist. Picking the ball up in midfield but going towards his own goal, Jenkins launches a pinpoint 50-yard pass over the top of Palace’s left-back and into the path of Summerville – who finishes with aplomb.

His brilliant assist gained plenty of applause on Twitter after the match. Many thought his long ball was excellent and even “world class”. It was not the only pass that Jenkins produced, leading towards a goal. New signing McGurk scored after Summerville was found again by Jenkins, for the third.
