Leeds United fans will be worried by what Fabrizio Romano has tweeted today, with the transfer expert suggesting that talks are ‘well advanced’ for Raphinha to join Barcelona.
The Brazilian star is said to be available this summer at a knockdown price. Indeed, a report just this week had suggested that Barca had made a £29m move for Raphinha which was likely to be accepted.
For Leeds fans, there’ll be a hope that staying in the Premier League and bringing in fresh faces over the summer could convince Raphinha to stay put. However, according to Romano, a deal is well down the line and talks are at an advanced stage right now, albeit an actual deal will take some time to complete.
Raphinha has once again been among the better players for Leeds this season, despite perhaps not hitting the heights he did in his debut campaign.
New Leeds manager Jesse Marsch will be wanting to keep his best players if he can. But there is also an acceptance at Elland Road that they’re unlikely to keep Raphinha forever. Talk of this move to Barcelona, then, would appear to have plenty of legs.
TBR’s View: Leeds Will Hope For Big Money For Raphinha
If Barca manage to sign the Leeds star for less than £30m then Leeds will have every reason to feel hard done to.
He was signed for just £17m but he is worth far more than that. This is a Brazilian international with potential to get even better, and anything less than £40m is really a steal in this market.
Hopefully, for Leeds anyway, they can at least resist bids until they get to a point they can’t turn down.
