Leeds duo and Chris Sutton comment on Stuart Dallas’ toe-poke goal on Tuesday night

Stuart Dallas has gone under the radar for his form at Leeds United this season – scoring five goals in the Premier League, his latest coming on Tuesday night against Southampton and Chris Sutton, Robin Koch and Barry Douglas have reacted.

The 29-year-old broke into the penalty area from midfield on Tuesday night and latching onto an inch-perfect pass from helder Costa, the Northern Ireland man toe-punted a left-footed effort into the bottom corner from 15 yards.

It was a brilliant finish, if not a bit of a throwback. The toe punt is not used as often as it was in the professional game, but then Dallas is hardly a modern-style player. Indeed, he is a workhorse, able to play in numerous positions under Marcelo Bielsa.

Despite being used at left-back or on the right side of the defence in 15 of his 25 Premier League outings this season, the 52-time international now has many goals as Raphinha – and Sutton was full of praise for his technique on Tuesday night.

The win for Leeds has seen Bielsa’s men climb back into the top half of the table, sitting in a very comfortable tenth place with 35 points from 25 league games. The return of Diego Llorente will boost the Yorkshire side, too.

They produced the spectacular win even without star man Kalvin Phillips. Not only did Dallas earn praise from Sutton, but Koch and Douglas – who remains a Leeds-owned player on loan at Blackburn – responded on their Instagram stories.
