Leeds United appeared to do some outstanding business over the summer, with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad being bolstered with a number of marquee additions.
But one of the players the Whites did not sign may also be one of those the Elland Road faithful keep a particularly keen eye on given how close he seemingly came to becoming a Leeds player.
As noted by BBC Sport, Michael Cuisance nearly joined the newly-promoted side for around £20 million ahead of the international deadline. However, a move ultimately fell through, with Sky Sports reporting that the Frenchman failed a medical.
He may not have moved to Leeds, but Cuisance did leave Bayern Munich before the window closed.
It was Marseille who managed to sign the 21-year-old. The Ligue 1 side have taken the youngster on loan for the campaign. And he got to make his debut for the club on Saturday.
It proved to be a winning debut. Andre Villas-Boas’s men won 3-1 against Bordeaux.
Plenty of Marseille fans seemed hugely impressed with Cuisance’s debut display. One even suggested that the early signs may hint that Leeds have dropped a clanger.
Of course, the Whites will argue that it was not his quality that they had concerns about. So some at Elland Road are unlikely to be surprised to see Cuisance impress on his Marseille bow.
But more questions may be asked if he can build on his debut while also staying fit for the majority of the campaign.
Here is how some of the Marseille supporters reacted to Cuisance’s display…
Cuisance has been fantastic, I just hope he doesn’t follow the Sanson & Rongier path of sharp beginnings and slow fall into the football abyss#TeamOM

Super match Cuisance

It’s far from pretty but it doesn’t have to be. Defence is relatively solid, Cuisance could be a breath of fresh air if used right, curious to see Luis Henrique and Pape Gueye integrated into the team. I just really hope we build off this win

Feel like Leeds dropped a clanger on Cuisance – he’s looked very very good on his debut.
