Tom Pearce is a highly-rated talent to come out of Leeds United’s academy and was shipped out on loan in January.
The 21-year-old defender did feature twice in the Championship under Marcelo Bielsa in the first half of the season and has come through the ranks at Elland Road.
He’s an attack-minded left-back that has played 10 first-team games for the Whites during his career and has the potential to become a regular in the senior team the future.
Pearce linked up with League One oufit Scunthorpe United at the beginning of 2019 and his loan club are struggling in the bottom half of the table.
The English full-back has made eight appearances for them and managed one goal in return, but he’s playing in a team struggling for form.
He has definitely benefited from a spell of senior football, but it looks unlikely he will be ready to make the step up under Bielsa next season, regardless of whether the team are promoted or not.
Leeds do already have two quality options at left-back in the shape of Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas in the first team.
Pearce would benefit from a full season away from Leeds next year to help continue his development and it may be worth seeing if any Championship teams are keen.
Bielsa’s team could find themselves in the Premier League next year if they go up automatically, but if they are overtaken by Sheffield United in the table will have to go through the lottery of the play-offs.
