Pontus Jansson has finally broken his silence on Instagram, almost a week after Leeds United suffered a heartbreaking Championship play-off defeat to Derby County last Wednesday.
The Whites were expected to book their place in the play-off final alongside Aston Villa, after beating Derby 1-0 in the away leg. It was the third time in three matches that Leeds had won this season against Frank Lampard’s side.
Jansson missed the first leg through injury and was only named as a substitute for the second 90 minutes. The Sweden international was missed, as Derby ran out 4-2 winners on the night – and 4-3 on aggregate.
The former Torino and Malmo defender has remained silent on both Twitter and Instagram since the result, though pictures did emerge after the match of him watching Derby celebrate at Elland Road.
Jansson has finally posted on Instagram in reaction to the defeat, five days after it happened. He believes Leeds did not deserve to lose to Derby, before thanking Leeds fans for their support.
Will Jansson remain at Elland Road? Now 28 years of age, the colossal defender is losing the chance to play in the Premier League and has been linked with West Ham and Southampton in the past.
Losing in the play-offs will be a bitter blow to Jansson, who is in the peak of his career. Gaining promotion this season would have been the ideal time to chance his arm in the Premier League.
If a top-tier side comes in for Jansson, he may be tempted to move – despite his love for the Yorkshire club. It remains to be seen.
