Leeds defender Luke Ayling shows signs of revival with Bolton performance

Leeds United secured a 2-1 victory at home to Bolton on Saturday and it was a positive step in their promotion bid.

The Whites earned three points in the Championship courtesy of goals from Patrick Bamford and Ezgjan Alioski.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team moved up to second in the league table and dominated the ball against a team sat just a place above the foot of the table.

But perhaps one of the most important features of the game was the performance of defender Luke Ayling, who looked very much back towards his best.

The right-back has had a torrid 2019 so far with some extremely poor displays, where many supporters have wanted Jamie Shackleton to replace him in the side.

He may have turned the corner though against Bolton, as he looked far more solid defensively and also got forward well too.

Ayling can be a quality Championship defender when he’s on form and it’s a great sign for the team if he is back to his best.

The full-back needs to be part of a solid back four and cutting out errors in his game will help him restore the faith of supporters.

He will now hope he’s got past the tough start to 2019 that can be put down to a mid-season blip and that he now plays a key role in the push for a return to the Premier League.
