Leeds United have been linked with a move for Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy this summer, though he remains a complete unknown to English fans. But that could work in Leeds’ favour.
TeamTalk claimed that Leeds are rivalling both Derby County and Rangers for the 23-year-old striker, who has had an excellent season at Rugby Park – scoring 12 goals in 33 league and cup appearances.
Brophy is currently celebrating after earning his first call up to the Scotland squad, who are preparing to take on Belgium and Cyrpus. Steve Clarke, who managed Brophy at Killie, has picked a number of Brophy’s teammates too.
A first look at his stats, and many Leeds fans will be put off. Scoring 12 goals all season in the Scottish Premiership is not good enough for a side looking to push for promotion to the Premier League.

However, what Brophy has is perfect for Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play – and that is because he mirrors a lot of what Kemar Roofe offers to the Elland Road club.
Brophy is very quick, but combines that with a dogged determination and aggression that allows him to act as his side’s first line of defence. Leeds are renowned for their high press under Bielsa, and Brophy would be well suited.
What is also a positive for Leeds, is that given he is untested in the Premier League or indeed the Championship, he will be available for a smaller fee. He has a contract at Killie until the summer of 2021.
Owner Andrea Radrizzani has already admitted that there will not be much money spent on new players, and bringing in a player on the cheap like Brophy could see Leeds unearth a diamond.
