Leeds coach suggests player set to return against Newcastle, with video on Twitter

Leeds United goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad has uploaded a video to Twitter of Illan Meslier from training ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against Newcastle – and Leeds fans are absolutely delighted.

Meslier, 20, was replaced by veteran Casilla against Crawley – and the Spanish stopper made two errors in the embarrassing 3-0 FA Cup defeat. However, to the surprise of many, Casilla retained his place against Brighton.

However, £16,500 a week (Spotrac) Meslier confirmed on Instagram that he had returned a positive test. Leeds fans reacted with concern for their star goalkeeper, especially given the questionable form of Spain international Casilla.

It was previously unclear how long Meslier would be out – and if he had any lasting effects from the illness. But Abad has put those rumours to bed, by uploading a video of Meslier shining in training and looking as sharp as ever.

Meslier has kept six clean sheets in his 17 Premier League appearances, but has conceded a huge 33 goals in the other 11 – though it is largely down to the way Marcelo Bielsa’s men play, rather than mistakes he has made.

Leeds fans reacted to Abad’s post – and many are confident that Meslier being in training means he will be available for selection against Newcastle on Tuesday night. Leeds beat Newcastle 5-2 at Elland Road in the reverse fixture.
