Leeds can achieve promotion if they mirror Norwich blueprint

After losing in the Championship play-off semi-finals last year, manager Marcelo Bielsa has decided to stick around for another year and try help Leeds United get promoted to the Premier League.

The Whites should be considered one of the favourites in the second-tier for promotion and have excellent quality throughout their squad.

But one potential weakness does come in the heart of defence, where the exit of Pontus Jansson is surely going to have an impact.

Jansson, 28, has linked up with Brentford and he was a key performer at centre-back in recent seasons at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire club are going to have to manage with Liam Cooper, Ben White and Gaetano Berardi by the looks of it.

Leeds can still achieve a goal of promotion with a slightly vulnerable defence if they follow Norwich City’s footprint.

Norwich rightfully achieved promotion last season as the Championship title winners and they blow most teams away.

Daniel Farke’s team dominated possession and were ruthless in attack, which is why they scored 93 goals in 46 league games.

They did leak 57 goals in defence and there were seven teams in the division with a better defensive record than them.

Norwich’s free-flowing attacking football won out in the end and that’s certainly something Leeds can look to emulate.

Kemar Roofe, Patrick Bamford, Helder Costa, Pablo Hernandez and Jack Harrison are some of the Leeds players capable of tearing teams apart in the Championship, but the key for them is consistency.

Bielsa’s team may look a little less shaky in defence, but they like to dominate the ball and their attack has the potential to shine through like Norwich’s last year.
