Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa confirms squad amid Augustin and Poveda question

Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Leeds United will be without Jean-Kevin Augustin again this weekend, while Ian Poveda will also not be involved as he plans to name an unchanged squad against Huddersfield Town, in comments reported by Leeds Live.

Leeds fans are still awaiting the chance to see a significant contribution from any of their January signings.

Augustin had made a handful of substitute appearances for the Whites as he looked to get up to speed. Meanwhile, Poveda is yet to make his first-team debut at Elland Road.

Unfortunately for the promotion-chasers, Augustin sustained an injury ahead of their win at Middlesbrough last week and subsequently missed the trip to Hull City.

And when asked whether the striker is available for Saturday, Bielsa issued a brief response.

“Augustin is not ready yet,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.

He was subsequently asked whether Poveda could be involved. Bielsa confirmed that he had no plans to change the team.

“It’s going to be the same group as the last match,” he added.

TBR View – Leeds fans may be concerned

Leeds are in a fantastic position in the promotion race. They have won their last four games and sit five points clear of the play-off places.

But it will be frustrating for the Whites fans that their January additions are yet to make an impact. While Elia Caprile always looked to be a signing made with one eye on the future, there was plenty of excitement following the arrivals of Poveda and Augustin.

In fairness, Poveda’s situation is arguably not too dissimilar to Caprile’s given his age. But it is still surprising that he has not yet made his debut for the club.

Augustin has had a little pressure removed by Tyler Roberts. The Wales international scored twice at the weekend after coming off the bench.

But it is still somewhat alarming for the Elland Road faithful that none of the players brought in in January have so far managed to make an impression.
